More animal-shaped breads from JiPan 16 May 2006

I am totally smitten by a bakeshop/restaurant called JiPan. I’ve raved about it before, highlighting their delicious and freshly baked pastries and breads.

Here’s my photo of the turtle who tastes great with milk or tea. The turtle has a melon-tasting shell. Bite in and you get a mild chocolate filling!

Now for a custard-filled crab! It’s a little doughier than the turtle but the custard isn’t as sweet as I expected. It’s got a more cream cheese taste to it, but “fluffier”. The eyes are raisins, if you can’t tell.

I’m likely to rave rave about JiPan again soon (after this one). So go check Jipan out. Best go 30 minutes before closing and get everything at half price!

I like your blog. Recipes sound yummy and will try some.

You can get free-range organic eggs at the Organic Market on Sundays at Legaspi Village.

I totally agree with your comments on Jipan! I love all their stuff and it seems everyone in the Japanese community buys and eats their products so it must be authentic. And yes, I like the fact that their breads and pastries are fresh and don’t have the strong smell and color that comes with preservatives or food colorings. Have you tried their corn soup and noodle dishes too? It’s absolutely delicious…

Well, I have made up my mind on where to have my dinner, AGAIN!!

    hi yah, anonymous,

nope i haven’t tried the soup yet. but we are systematically going through the menu and everything i have tasted is great!

funny you should mention that japanese eat her often/buy stuff. i noticed that one time when we were in glorietta, a groups of japanese sat down at the OTHER japanese resto right next to Jipan. after looking at the menu and looking at other people’s plates, they ended up and settled down for their meal at Jipan. this really says a lot!
